Great article. I agree totally. I am a student of Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship in Sweden. Its a master program where we get help to start our own company, kind of a pre-incubator. Reading your article and as I recently started to write my own blog at http://www.ndreas.net, also about entrepreneurship, I realised how much academic influence there is. Especially the business plan. You have to spend so much time figuring out how big the market is and do just really silly calculations to achieve a hockey stick.
I myself would much rather decide on a need I believe exist in a market, spend time talking to potential customer, find partners and go from there. If its not big enough, look into another market.
What I regret most is the influence of IP that we had in the very beginning. Before even knowing our market we had to do an IP strategy, and think about how to use brand etc.
Well, just my comments being a first-time entrepreneur. If interested to hear more of my thoughts and experiences look at my blog at www.ndreas.net
