I only backed-up my files by storing it in my mailbox so I can access it anywhere I may be --- since emails are password protected and has bigger storage capacity.
It is really not wise to keep your PC unprotected even if you're only using it at home. The risk is very expensive --- not to mention the amount of headache it will caused you when your system starts to crash
