I have encountered a number of timesheet usage models which were being considered for replacement. The primary complaint driving the repalcement effort is the nuisance of sending out blank worksheets, getting back completed forms and then merging the data. A handful of employees is not a problem. Get upwards of 50 or more staff filling out timesheets and the work gets very time consuming.
Distributed Spreadsheet is what we have found solves this issue and breathes new life into older timesheet models. I know of companies with over 300 consultants who use Excel timesheets simply because it is easier and cheaper for the field organization.
Excel-based timesheets are the most common method for tracking time and billing info. Now there is no need to throw away that investment jsut because the number of users has grown.
