Research in Motion has developed workarounds that it says will keep BlackBerry devices operating even if NTP wins an injunction in a February 24 hearing related to the companies' patent fight. RIM says that only nine claims related to three patents held by NTP remain in dispute. The company claims that it has received assurances–presumably from its lawyers–that the workarounds don’t infringe on any NTP claims. The workarounds can automatically be triggered if an injunction is granted and it becomes illegal for it to use the NTP intellectual property. The new software is in the certification process and soon will be included in new devices and available for download to existing units, the release says.
