But it's most widely-used service is undoubtedly BackPack, which has changed and evolved to become the type of intranet tool that Google Sites strives to be.

BackPack intranet users can automatically keep up with the activities of the group |
BackPack started as a rather straightforward to-do list maker and document storage site. As its name implies, you jammed your *stuff* into it.
But earlier this month 37 Signals added multi-user support for the service, instantly turning it from a single-user productivity service into a perfect small user intranet.
All the features available previously to a single user -- list-making, document management, word processing, online calendaring and more -- are now available on a company-wide, team-wide basis.
BackPack isn't free, but prices start at just $5 a month, which won't price you out.
If you like Google Sites, take a look at BackPack. It might give you everything you need in a more mature and a bit snazzier package.
