Lifehacker today has a great post on Top Ten Email Productivity Boosters. It's worth checking out, but here are a few of my favorite tips:
- Process Email in Batches - Don't deal with email on a "constant-interrupt" basis. Email is just one input you should be dealing with, no the be-all, end-all. If you *have* to be in touch with co-workers or customers, choose another route -- instant messaging, cell phone, etc.
- Prioritize To-You-Only Messages - This is just one of many filtering techniques you can use, but it's a good one. If someone is sending a message JUST to you, it's probably more of a priority then if you are one of ten CCs. Also filter non-priority emails -- like newsletters, regular updates, etc -- to a folder for later viewing.
- Consider using Gmail, either online or via its very nice POP and iMAP services. Online, in particular, Gmail offers a wide array of customizations, add-ons, plug-ins and tricks to make handling email *much* easier. Check out this list of Top Ten Gmail Tips and TimeSavers for a Gmail-specific view of dealing with email.
