The best part about starting a web-based business is the lack of overhead. You don’t have to worry about finding office space, or having to make the rent for that office space every month. You can take all the money you would otherwise earmark for rent and other costly office expenses and reinvest it in the business. And what better way to spend that money than by marketing and advertising your business? This, too, can be an expensive exercise, but it doesn’t have to be—nor should it be for a web-based business, because email marketing for websites is both the best and least expensive way to promote yourself and your products!

Website email marketing is still a relatively new enterprise—after all, the Internet didn’t even become a daily staple of American life until the mid-1990s—but it is an increasingly relevant and effective method for an online enterprise to spread the word. For one thing, it’s impossible to get any more direct than with email marketing for websites. Your message will go right to the intended party—no need to worry about someone flipping past it in the newspaper, changing the channel on the radio or fast-forwarding through it on the TIVO.

Secondly, email marketing for websites makes perfect sense because where else will online shoppers get their information other than on the Internet? Not only are those who are likely to shop on the Internet used to finding the deals they want online, but they are also well-accustomed to giving their email address to merchants. Simply place a prompt in a prominent place on the website—or on every single page of the website—inviting users to type in their email address so that they can receive future offers as well as company news.
