The question that I am constantly asked is “How do email marketing and social media work together?” The answer used to be somewhat ambiguous, but there has now been enough time to clearly see how both meld together in the marketing cycle. Social media brings the engagement, and email marketing delivers the conversion.

Social media is new, exciting and engaging. Your audience is rushing through their email inboxes as quickly as possible to jump over to Facebook or Twitter. They are engaged with social media– which is perfect for introducing them to your products or services. They are sharing – which helps spread your marketing message. You can use the same templates that you use on your Facebook page as you do with your email marketing campaigns. Your branding is now seamless, and with a new location for your subscribe form, you have another venue for people to join in on your marketing efforts. Your audience is already here, give them reason to read your emails.

Now, you can use your email marketing talents to close the deal. Discuss your favorable presence on Social Media sites, your common “Friends”, your appreciation for being “Followed”, and your interest in keeping your audience informed. Again, you are using common templates to create your emails, so your branding is consistent. You can remind, clarify, stress urgency, and close the deal with targeted email messages.

As marketers, you should quickly embrace the new relationship between social media and email marketing. Focus on the now defined values of both. Keep your branding cohesive, and watch the sales come in.
