If you have a domain name, such as yourcompany.com, then you have a web host. If you are considering registering a domain for a website and email addresses, then you need a web host.
There are a lot of hosting companies out there with wide variations in price and quality. How do you choose a good hosting company? How do you get a good value?
The key is to ask the right questions. First, there are the basics that separate the basement operations from professional web hosting operations:
1. Do you have redundant Internet connections?
2. Do you operate a data center with robust temperature control (for the hardware)?
3. Does you have robust fire suppression systems in place?
4. Please explain your customer support processes.
5. How much bandwidth can I use?
5. What features do I get with my web hosting package?
6. What exactly are your backup policies? How often will you backup my data? And is it automated backup?
Then beyond that consider the following:
If you are like most businesses you plan to grow. Choose a web hosting company that can grow with you.
1. What is their capability beyond just hosting?
2. Are their services scalable ?
2. Do they do custom web application development and web design?
3. Is their website good? That is one sign of a competent hosting company. If the website looks amateur then there is a good chance the company is as well.
4. Do they offer additional services that could be of use to your company now or in the future?
The key is not to get the absolute cheapest hosting on the market but to get a good VALUE with a solid, competent company. |
