RE: Online shops

Jamin,

With the words, "successful, productive and inexpensive" it's hard to find an e-commerce solution that satisfies each word. "Inexpensive" might not go with "successful", but it depends on so many variables.

Inexpensive solutions are all over the place. The host that I use (iPowerWeb.com) is awesome! They only charge $95/year, and have a few easy do-it-yourself ecommerce packages. It may also be very productive, but it doesn't guarantee success.

Success is the hardest part. It's a combination of so many things, of which I feel "image" is very important. How your company "looks" is an important ingredient to success. People judge your company and products based on their visual feedback. If a company appears really good to them, then they will invest more time to look around, and are more likely to invest their money. If, however, the company looks "so,so", most people will not spend any time at all on your site.

Image can directly relate to "stickiness" - how long a user will stay on your site and look around. We recently redesigned our company web site, and the web stats show that users stay on our site 300-400% longer, and actually click on more than 10x as many pages. This is so exciting, and it leads to more sales. That is what I define success as.

But like I said, it depends on a lot of other marketing aspects, as well as identifying and knowing who your audience is.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Paul Ruettgers
